The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, PhD, has provided reassurance to the public regarding the continuous efforts of the Police Force in combating crimes and ensuring enhanced safety and security nationwide. The IGP conveyed this assurance while urging Commissioners of Police (CPs) in all states of the Federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to optimize the security framework in their respective Areas of Responsibility (AoR) for effective and proactive policing ahead of the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration on Wednesday, June 28th, 2023. The aim is to ensure the utmost security for the citizens throughout the festivities and beyond.
Specifically, the IGP has instructed the Zonal AIGs and State Command CPs to deploy human resources and other operational assets to conduct patrols focused on building public confidence and preventing crime. These patrols will cover major highways, residential and industrial areas, vulnerable locations, places of worship, other public gathering spots, as well as critical national infrastructure. It is emphasized that these deployments must be carried out without any form of harassment or extortion. The IGP has also stressed that deployed personnel must exhibit discipline, professionalism, respect for the fundamental rights of citizens, and fulfill their responsibilities with decorum and vigilance.
Furthermore, while extending his congratulations to the Muslim faithful in the country on the occasion of the 2023 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Inspector-General of Police reiterated that the Force will leverage all available resources, including relevant groups, associations, and sectors, and collaborate with other security agencies to enhance service delivery and maintain overall security nationwide.
