IGP Acknowledges and Commends Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit for Exceptional Service

In a meeting held at the IGP’s Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Thursday, January 18th, 2024, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbeokun, conveyed his appreciation to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit. The IGP highlighted the unit’s exceptional service in safeguarding the nation against evolving threats associated with explosive materials.

Recognizing the pivotal role played by the unit during the Boko Haram insurgency, the IGP commended their efforts in bringing an end to frequent bombing activities. He specifically mentioned recent achievements, such as the safe rendering of an Anti-disturbance IED at the University of Maiduguri and road clearance operations in various locations in Borno State, facilitating the reintegration of citizens into their ancestral homes. Additionally, the IGP acknowledged the Unit’s success in recovering five IEDs from an unregistered vehicle after neutralizing three members of a separatist group in Anambra State.

In light of the evolving nature of security challenges nationwide, the IGP urged EOD Commanders to enhance their proactiveness and vigilance in monitoring the production, importation, storage, transportation, distribution, and usage of explosives. Emphasizing the importance of professionalism in countering armed and violent criminals, the IGP stressed the need for the EOD Unit to remain responsive to emerging threats.

Expressing full confidence in the abilities and dedication of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Units, the Inspector-General of Police reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Police Force under his leadership to invest in training and equipping EOD personnel with the latest technologies to enhance their capabilities
