IGP Egbetokun Presents N1.5 Billion Cheques to Families of Deceased Police Officers

In a heartfelt ceremony held at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun presented a total of N1.594 billion in cheques to 727 families of police officers who lost their lives in active service between the periods of 2018/2019, 2020/2021, and 2022/2023.

The presentation, conducted under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Scheme package of the Nigerian Police Force, signifies the Force’s unwavering commitment to supporting the families of fallen heroes. The event, marked by solemnity and respect, aimed to provide financial relief to the bereaved families.

Addressing the gathering, IGP Egbetokun outlined the breakdown of the disbursements, emphasizing the significance of each category. Cheques totaling N55.7 million were allocated to 311 beneficiaries as the remaining life assurance balance for the year 2021/2022. Additionally, N761 million was earmarked for 178 beneficiaries representing batches 15 and 17 of the life assurance for the same period.

Furthermore, N567 million was designated for 78 beneficiaries as full life assurance policy payment for the year 2022/2023. An amount of N96.8 million was allocated to 86 beneficiaries corresponding to batch 5 of the year 2018/2019, while N113.2 million was set aside for 100 beneficiaries as 100% full payment for 2022/2023.

IGP Egbetokun underscored the significance of the occasion, highlighting the relentless efforts of the police leadership in safeguarding the welfare of its personnel and their families. He expressed solidarity with the bereaved families, acknowledging the profound loss and financial hardships they endure following the demise of their loved ones.

The Inspector General assured the families that the Force remains committed to resolving all pending claims and backlogs, ensuring that every entitled benefit is rightfully disbursed. He reiterated the administration’s dedication to honoring the legacy and sacrifice of the fallen officers, pledging continued support to their dependents.
