The Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the suspension of special promotions within the Nigeria Police Force, citing concerns that such practices are undermining the integrity and effectiveness of the organization.

Expressing his displeasure at the rampant lobbying for special promotions, IGP Egbetokun declared that any future recommendations for special promotions from higher authorities would result in disciplinary action against the individuals involved. He emphasized that special promotions, when necessary, would be handled exclusively by the police management.

Additionally, the IGP banned any form of undue soliciting for postings, warning that anyone found guilty of this act would face the full extent of the law.

Despite these stern measures, the IGP proceeded to decorate 27 senior police officers who were recently promoted. The ceremony recognized officers promoted from their initial ranks to new positions, including one Deputy Inspector-General of Police, 11 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, and 15 Commissioners of Police.

IGP Egbetokun’s actions signal a strong stance against favoritism and political interference in police promotions, aiming to ensure a merit-based and disciplined police force.
