Directs IGP-MMU to Oversee Law Enforcement
The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has reiterated the resolute commitment of his leadership to reinstating a sense of order and responsibility to both the country’s highways and police operations. Acknowledging the pivotal role of secure and efficient road networks, the IGP has instructed the deployment of the upgraded Monitoring Unit and X-Squad operatives, in conjunction with senior supervisory officers.
ACP Muyiwa Adejobi the Force Spokesman said their mission is to meticulously evaluate critical checkpoints situated along the highways, with the aim of strategically situating them, eradicating extortion and corrupt practices, and minimizing public inconveniences while upholding safety.

Addressing concerns about unchecked checkpoints potentially disrupting traffic flow and encouraging inappropriate conduct by officers, the IGP underscored the indispensability of checkpoints as integral components of visible policing. He emphasized their critical role in effective contemporary policing. The IGP acknowledged that although these checkpoints and other operations might sometimes cause disruptions, their purpose is to attain anti-crime objectives. He appealed to the public for cooperation and assured that supervisory officers have been instructed to educate and supervise their personnel to uphold professionalism and dignity in all operations. This includes promoting respectful conduct and employing technology and intelligence for optimized operational efficiency.
While encouraging the public to always collaborate with law enforcement personnel and other security agents during operations, the IGP urged them to share their experiences, suggestions, and feedback with the police. The Inspector-General of Police reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Force to ensure the safety and security of every individual traversing the nation’s highways. The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to restoring order, promoting safety, and building trust between law enforcement and the communities it serves.
