GP Takes Charge of Developing Comprehensive Training Program with Emphasis on Attitudinal and Behavioral Changes

In a determined effort to enhance professionalism, effectiveness, and public trust within law enforcement personnel, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has initiated the development of a comprehensive training program and curriculum for colleges and training schools. This program will focus on fostering attitudinal and behavioral changes, alongside physical and technical fitness.

Recognizing the multifaceted nature of the law enforcement profession, the IGP acknowledges that it demands not only physical strength and technical proficiency but also mental acuity and the highest standards of ethical conduct, empathy, and effective communication. The forthcoming training program aims to address the significance of attitudinal and behavioral changes, nurturing a positive and community-oriented mindset among police personnel. Through the instillation of core values like integrity and effective communication, the program will stress the importance of respectful and compassionate interactions with the public. Additionally, it will enhance interpersonal skills, conflict resolution techniques, cultural sensitivity, and de-escalation strategies, all intended to strengthen trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

To provide a realistic learning experience, the training program will incorporate lifelike scenarios and simulations. This will allow officers to practice critical decision-making skills while considering the potential impact on community relations. By simulating authentic situations, officers can develop the necessary competencies within a controlled environment.

The Ag. Inspector-General of Police has reaffirmed his dedication to working closely with experienced trainers, subject matter experts, and community stakeholders in order to develop this comprehensive training program. He firmly believes that this initiative will nurture a stronger bond between law enforcement and the communities they serve. By empowering police officers to build trust, comprehend diverse perspectives, and proactively address issues affecting public safety and well-being, the training program will contribute to the creation of a safer and more harmonious society.
