The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially presented certificates of return to Usman Ododo, the governor-elect of Kogi State, and his running mate, Joel Salifu. The ceremony took place at the INEC headquarters in Lokoja, the state capital, on Friday, amidst jubilation from a massive crowd of supporters.

Usman Ododo, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured victory in the off-season governorship election held on November 11 in Kogi State. He emerged with a wide margin, polling 446,237 votes, surpassing Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who came second with 259,052 votes. Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, garnered 46,362 votes.

After receiving his certificate of return, Governor-Elect Ododo pledged to fulfill his campaign promises, building on the accomplishments of outgoing Governor Yahaya Bello while preserving the unity of the state. He expressed gratitude to the people for their overwhelming support, emphasizing that his administration would be inclusive, embracing individuals regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation.

Ododo reassured the public of his commitment to sustaining youth and women empowerment programs, providing employment opportunities for the youth, and prioritizing education. The presentation ceremony, witnessed by Governor Yahaya Bello, emphasized the need for unity and collaboration in building a stronger Kogi State.

The Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Gabriel Longpet, highlighted that the presentation of certificates was in fulfillment of the commission’s mandate, certifying that Usman Ododo met the constitutional requirements for the position.
