The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a directive to all Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre owners to apprehend any parent found in close proximity to their facilities during the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) exercise.
This directive was conveyed by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Isaq Oloyede, during a virtual meeting with CBT centre operators and owners held on Wednesday.
According to Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the spokesman for JAMB, the move aims to prevent parental intrusion into the examination process. Parents found breaching this directive and intruding into the examination venue risk disqualification of their wards from the exam.
The statement emphasized, “This measure is necessary as it has been discovered over time that many of these intruding parents are facilitators of examination infractions while others have, by their actions, disrupted the Board’s examinations in the past.”
It further highlighted the collaboration between security agents and CBT owners to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination.
The directive also addressed concerns about underage candidates, noting that parents accompanying underage children to the examination venue undermine the integrity of the examination process.
The examination is slated to take place in 700 CBT centres across the country, with JAMB assuring candidates of seamless conduct while preparing contingencies for any technical glitches.
In the event of technical challenges during a session, affected candidates would be rescheduled for subsequent sessions, ensuring fairness and integrity in the examination process.
JAMB stressed the importance of candidates and parents remaining calm in the face of any disruptions, warning that individuals who disrupt subsequent sessions due to technical failures in their own session would face disqualification from the examination.
The stringent measures implemented by JAMB underscore its commitment to maintaining the integrity and fairness of the UTME exercise, ensuring a level playing field for all candidates.
