Jandor Returns to APC, Citing PDP’s Internal Crises

Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran, widely known as Jandor and a former Lagos State governorship candidate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jandor made this announcement on Monday during a press briefing at his office in Ikeja, Lagos. His return to the APC follows weeks of speculation after he resigned from the PDP. Explaining the reasons behind his decision, Jandor pointed to deep-rooted internal conflicts within the PDP, particularly the party’s inability to address acts of disloyalty during the 2023 general elections.

“Our experience in the PDP was like working with individuals who consistently undermined their own party. However, we have chosen to focus on the future rather than dwell on past disappointments,” he stated.

He further emphasized that after careful deliberation with family, political allies, and respected figures, he decided to align with a party that is focused on winning elections and governing effectively.

“Following consultations with those who share our vision for a more prosperous Lagos, we have decided to move forward with a political platform that prioritizes electoral success and impactful governance,” he added.

Jandor also disclosed that before making his decision, he engaged with leaders from various political parties, including the Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Young Progressive Party (YPP).

Jandor referenced a Yoruba proverb: “A woman who has never been married to two men may not know which one is better.”

He elaborated on his point, saying:

“In the APC, there is leadership that, despite any differences in candidate selection, is dedicated to securing victory for the party and its members.

Conversely, the Lagos PDP has a leader who consistently works against his own party during elections, frustrating the efforts of committed members. Given these realities, we have made the better choice.”

Jandor described his return as a well-thought-out decision motivated by his dedication to the progress of Lagos and the need for unity among progressive-minded individuals.

He acknowledged that key figures within the APC played a significant role in persuading him to return, including President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu.

“I deeply appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for recognizing our contributions to democracy and national development. I am also grateful to the Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, whose persistent efforts over the past year convinced me to return ‘home.’”

“The moment my resignation from the PDP was made public, the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu, immediately reached out to me, saying, ‘Egbon, this is the time to come back home.’ His approach reflected the leadership qualities he has acquired from one of the best.”

Jandor reassured his supporters that this move was in Lagos’ best interest and encouraged them to stand with him in this new phase of his political journey.

“Our commitment to service, integrity, and progress remains unwavering. Together, we will continue working towards a better and more prosperous Lagos for the present and future generations,” he concluded.
