The Kaduna Police Command has arrested 182 suspects and seized arms, ammunition, and illegal drugs in a sweeping crackdown on criminal elements across the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, revealed that officers carried out a series of coordinated raids from June 9 to 13, targeting black spots and criminal hideouts. Acting on the orders of Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, the operatives aimed to boost public confidence and combat insecurity.
During the raids in densely populated and vulnerable areas such as Rigasa, Kawo, Tudun Wada, and Sabon Tasha, police recovered 30 bags containing around 1,600 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, along with dangerous weapons.
On June 13, officers raided Rigasa and seized hard drugs and large quantities of suspected Indian hemp. They also recovered an AK-47 magazine loaded with 31 live rounds, which fleeing suspects abandoned during a chase in Rafin Guza.
In another operation, officers from the Kakuri Division arrested 35-year-old Ziya U. Abdullah while he tried to sell a suspected stolen vehicle. He later led them to his alleged accomplice, Bashir Usman, also known as Yellow.
During interrogation, both suspects confessed to robbing a home in Gona with knives and cutlasses before escaping with a Honda Accord, which police later recovered in Zaria.
The police have already arraigned some of the suspects and are continuing investigations. They plan to prosecute the remaining suspects once investigations confirm their involvement.
