The Kogi State Government has firmly warned political actors, citizens, and media stakeholders against politicizing security issues or spreading fear, reaffirming its strong commitment to tackling insecurity head-on.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Lokoja by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the government highlighted its ongoing, quiet successes in combating criminal elements, especially kidnappers operating in the state.
“These achievements reflect our deliberate strategies and institutional efforts to ensure the safety of every resident of Kogi,” the statement declared.
The government sympathized with victims of recent attacks but urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation or panic, stating that such narratives embolden criminals and demoralize communities. It called on media professionals and opinion leaders to support the fight against insecurity rather than undermine it.
Condemning what it described as attempts by desperate politicians to politicize insecurity, the government warned that such actions threaten collective security efforts. “Those who previously introduced flawed solutions shouldn’t criticize the current, effective measures,” the statement said.
Citing reliable intelligence, the government linked the rise in threats to a migration of criminal elements from the North East and North West due to intensified security operations in those regions.
Despite these challenges, the government continues to deploy advanced security infrastructure, improve intelligence gathering, and strengthen community collaboration. “We aim to inspire hope, not spread fear. Our actions reflect our commitment,” it added.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo remains fully engaged in the security effort and refuses to politicize the issue. “We take full responsibility and stay focused on solutions, not blame,” said Commissioner Fanwo, urging politicians to prioritize performance over panic in their bid for reelection.
The government thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the National Security Adviser, service chiefs, and local security groups like the Vigilante Service and Hunters Group for their support “Let us reject propaganda that benefits criminals. Let’s join forces to conquer fear and promote hope.” the statement added
