Labour Party in Lagos Set to Conduct Chairmanship Primaries
The Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) is gearing up for its chairmanship primaries, slated to hold on Friday, ahead of the July 12 Local Government election in the state. This was disclosed by the LP State Chairman, Pastor Dayo Ekong, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.
According to Pastor Ekong, the primaries will take place at the various council areas across the state. The party has adopted the delegate-based mode (indirect) to select its candidates for the election. This comes after the party conducted its councillorship primaries on Thursday across all wards in the state.
Pastor Ekong expressed the party’s commitment to ensuring that the primary elections are free, fair, and transparent. “We are confident of a good outing in the election,” he said, exuding optimism about the party’s prospects in the forthcoming local government election.
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) is set to conduct the election in 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across the state. The LP’s chairmanship primaries on Friday will be a crucial step in the party’s preparations for the election.
With the primaries just a day away, the LP in Lagos appears to be on track with its electoral preparations. The success of the primaries will be a significant indicator of the party’s chances in the July 12 election.
