Labour Party Confirms Full Support for Peter Obi in Coalition Talks

Abuja, Nigeria – The Senator Nenadi Usman-led Labour Party National Caretaker Committee (LP-NCC) has unequivocally declared its full support for the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, regarding his participation in ongoing opposition coalition discussions.

In a statement released by Ken Asogwa, Special Adviser (Media) to Senator Usman, the LP-NCC dismissed reports originating from former members, including the suspended chairman Barr. Julius Abure, which had questioned Obi’s involvement or suggested he lacked party backing.

The committee clarified that it had “expressly approved and endorsed Peter Obi’s participation” in what it described as a “patriotic convergence of well-meaning Nigerians committed to dismantling the rudderless Tinubu administration.”

The statement emphasized that Obi’s focus on a coalition aimed at eradicating hunger, insecurity, and poor governance aligns directly with the Labour Party’s foundational principles.

The Usman-led LP-NCC further questioned the motives of the Abure faction, referring to them as individuals who have been “shown the exit door for their anti-party activities” and suggesting they are questioning a move rooted in national interest.
