Lagos Govt Clears Air on Demolition of Obi’s Brother’s Property

The Lagos State Government has firmly rejected accusations that it played any role in demolishing a property reportedly owned by the brother of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.

In a statement from the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, the government dismissed Obi’s claims as misleading and lacking evidence.

“The Lagos State Government finds it necessary to respond to recent accusations by Mr. Peter Obi regarding the demolition of his brother’s property,” the statement read.

Omotoso clearly stated that neither the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) nor any other government agency carried out the demolition.

Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, Special Adviser on eGIS & Urban Development and supervisor of LASBCA, confirmed the agency had no role in the incident.

Calling the allegation politically driven, the government criticized Obi for spreading claims without confirming the facts, especially so close to local government elections.

Reaffirming its dedication to the rule of law, the government emphasized it would hold any individual or group accountable for unlawful actions.

The statement urged the public to disregard Obi’s allegations and maintain trust in the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and order.

To clarify the matter, the state directed the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahun Owodunni Oki (FNIA), to lead a thorough investigation through LASBCA.

“This investigation will uncover the facts surrounding the demolition and guide any necessary steps,” Omotoso added.

The government concluded by pledging continued transparency, safety, and equal rights for all residents, regardless of political affiliations.
