Lagos set to make Rent easier with Monthly Payment

The Lagos State Government plans to introduce monthly and quarterly rent payment options to ease financial pressure on residents, especially low-income earners.

Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, announced the plan during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing.
The briefing marked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second year in office.

Akinderu-Fatai described the policy as part of ongoing efforts to make housing more accessible and affordable for residents.

He referenced the earlier rent-to-own scheme, which allows beneficiaries to pay five percent upfront and spread the balance over ten years.

He said the scheme received strong support and inspired the government to explore new rent solutions.

The government believes monthly or quarterly rent options will relieve residents from the burden of sourcing large yearly payments.

Akinderu-Fatai confirmed discussions are ongoing with landlords, developers, and stakeholders to resolve challenges like enforcement, landlord compliance, and payment tracking.

He acknowledged the need to address these issues thoroughly before full implementation.

He also announced that a pilot phase will launch in selected parts of Lagos.

He stressed that this initiative goes beyond policy and reflects real, measurable progress.

“We understand what this means for families and remain committed to making it happen,” Akinderu-Fatai said.
