According to Major General Edward Buba, the Director Defence Media Operations, troops demonstrated their remarkable capabilities by arresting 109 criminals involved in various illicit activities. Among the apprehended were 5 kidnappers responsible for terrorizing local communities, as well as an informant who had been aiding criminal elements. This series of successful arrests has delivered a significant blow to the criminal networks operating within the region.
Hostage Rescue
A heartwarming highlight of the operation was the successful rescue of 41 hostages who had been held captive by criminal elements. These hostages, who were subjected to distressing conditions, have now been safely reunited with their families, marking a moment of relief and joy for the affected communities.
Voluntary Surrender of Terrorists
In an unexpected turn of events, 231 terrorists chose the path of peace by surrendering to the troops. Among those who surrendered, there were 25 adult males, 63 adult females, and 143 children. This surrender signifies a substantial step towards dismantling the terrorist infrastructure and fostering an environment of stability and cooperation.
Weapons and Ammunition Recovery
The military’s operation also yielded a remarkable cache of weaponry and ammunition. Troops were able to recover a total of 41 weapons, which included a variety of firearms such as AK47 rifles, a PKT gun, a LMG, and locally fabricated pistols and rifles. Additionally, a substantial amount of ammunition, including 7.62mm special rounds, 7.62 NATO rounds, and PKT rounds, were confiscated, amounting to 300 assorted pieces of ammunition.
Criminal Assets Seized
The operation extended its impact to the criminal economy, as troops seized 13 motorcycles, 22 mobile phones, a bicycle, and 10 machetes, effectively disrupting the tools used by criminals. Furthermore, in the South South geopolitical zone, the military apprehended a staggering 682,400 liters of stolen crude oil, 70,950 liters of illegally refined AGO (Automotive Gas Oil), and 23,250 liters of DPK (Dual Purpose Kerosene), dealing a blow to oil thieves and denying them an estimated sum of N414,396.250.
