Military Operations Yield Significant Results: 52 Terrorists Neutralized, 204 Apprehended, and 234 Hostages Rescued

In an update from the Defence Headquarters on Friday, December 1, 2023, it was reported that troops engaged in internal security operations achieved notable success by eliminating 52 terrorists, apprehending 204 individuals, and rescuing 234 hostages during the past week.

Furthermore, in a strategic sting operation, troops successfully arrested a key leader of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) responsible for overseeing operations in the North West and North Central regions. This operation took place in Bauchi State, where, in collaboration with personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS) on November 29, the military conducted a precision raid at Tarum Village on the outskirts of Bauchi metropolis. The captured ISWAP leader is currently in custody.

Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, highlighted that the focus of ongoing military efforts remains on targeting leaders of terrorist groups. He reiterated the armed forces’ unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorists, insurgents, and violent extremist groups within the country while degrading their military capabilities.

General Buba also disclosed that, in addition to counterterrorism efforts, the troops successfully arrested 58 individuals suspected of involvement in oil theft. Furthermore, they seized stolen oil products valued at N668,731,000.00.

Additionally, the military has initiated an investigation into a recent incident involving a military helicopter that crashed in Port Harcourt. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the crash, and the circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under examination by the authorities.
