In a strong bid to combat the scourge of human trafficking and protect potential victims, the Network Against Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) FCT Zone has launched a powerful sensitization campaign to mark the 2023 World Day Against Trafficking In Persons. The event, held at the bustling Jabi Motor Park, Abuja, focused on educating members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) about identifying trafficked victims and the necessary steps to take if such incidents are suspected.

The World Day Against Trafficking In Persons is an annual international observance held on July 30th, with this year’s theme being “Reach out to all victims of trafficking and leave no one behind.”

Recognizing the critical role of transport workers in the transportation network and their potential to act as frontline observers in identifying trafficking victims, Jabi Motor Park was strategically chosen as the ideal venue for the campaign.

Caro Shalom, the Coordinator of NACTAL FCT Zone, highlighted the organization’s tireless efforts over the years in combating trafficking and exploitation. She emphasized the need for the target audience, including NURTW members, to become major players in the fight against human trafficking.

The event featured compelling presentations by representatives from the Centre for Family Health Initiative and NACTAL FCT Zone. The transport workers were educated on recognizing the signs and indicators of human trafficking, equipping them to identify potential victims and suspicious situations.

Human trafficking continues to be a pressing global issue, affecting millions of innocent lives worldwide. Events like the 2023 World Day Against Trafficking In Persons provide vital platforms for fostering collaboration and raising awareness on this grave concern.

Participants at the campaign expressed their commitment to remaining vigilant and proactive in combating human trafficking. They pledged to share the knowledge gained during the awareness campaign and actively contribute to creating safer and more resilient communities.

The sensitization campaign organized by NACTAL FCT Zone stands as a significant step towards building a united front in the battle against human trafficking. By empowering transport workers with essential knowledge and insights, the event aims to create a more secure and protected environment, ensuring that no victim is left behind in the fight against this heinous crime.
