NAF Hosts Golf Tournament to Celebrate 61st Anniversary, Strengthen Military Camaraderie

As part of activities marking the 61st anniversary of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), a special golf tournament was held to foster unity and camaraderie among personnel of the armed forces.

Chairman of the NAF@61 Golf Tournament Sub-Committee, Wing Commander Ayodeji Ayanbode, described the event as an avenue to bring together amateur golfers from the sister services – the Army, Navy, and Air Force – including both serving personnel and retirees.

According to him, the tournament serves as a platform to sustain existing relationships and deepen the bond among military officers, past and present. “The game has formed a medium of reuniting retirees. Everyone is happy to participate in the competition,” he said.

Wing Commander Ayanbode noted that the event had successfully created a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for interaction and reconnection. He emphasized that beyond the competition, the tournament offered a rare opportunity for long-time colleagues to reconnect.

Earlier in the day, the Chief of Air Staff was present at the tournament venue, where he had the opportunity to meet with several retirees he had not seen in years – a reunion made possible through the unifying spirit of the game.

The NAF Golf Tournament, now an integral part of the Air Force’s anniversary celebrations, continues to serve not just as a sporting event but as a symbol of enduring friendship and unity within Nigeria’s military community.
