NAF Launches Investigation Into Detained Corporal’s Death

The Nigerian Air Force has launched an investigation into the death of Corporal A. S. Wulumba, a personnel attached to its Bauchi Command, who died while being held in a guardroom.

Authorities detained Wulumba after he reportedly arrived late to his duty post. His sister, Numdarai Wulumba, said he told her on May 4, 2025, that his superiors had detained him despite his explanation that health issues caused the delay.

She criticized the decision, stating that military regulations limit detention for minor offences like lateness to 24 hours and that he should have faced a court-martial if necessary. “Now he’s gone,” she lamented.

Responding to the incident on Tuesday, NAF spokesman Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame confirmed Wulumba’s death and announced that a board of inquiry had begun examining the circumstances.

The NAF deeply regrets Corporal Wulumba’s death and extends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. “We are committed to uncovering the facts through a thorough investigation and to maintaining accountability and transparency within the Service” Ejodame said
