In a compelling address at the 2023 edition of the Information, Communication, Technology and Telecommunications (ICTEL) expo organized by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), urged businesses to adapt to the transformative power of disruptive technologies. Emphasizing the enhanced productivity and sustainability these technologies offer, he urged industry leaders and ICT innovators to embrace innovation and stay abreast of advancements that have reshaped global industries.
Represented by Mr. Alkasim Umar, the Director of Consumer Affairs Bureau at the NCC, Prof. Danbatta highlighted the swift acceleration of advancements in the ICT industry in recent years, as it navigates the 4th Industrial Revolution driven by the Internet. He noted that disruptive technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain Technology, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Fifth Generation (5G), and other emerging technologies have the potential to transform industries and business models.
“We find ourselves amid a digital revolution, where the boundaries between physical and virtual worlds are blurring,” remarked Danbatta. During the well-attended ICT Expo, Engr. Yomi Arowosafe, the NCC’s Zonal Controller in Lagos, received an LCCI Appreciation Award on behalf of Prof. Danbatta. The award recognized Danbatta’s invaluable contribution towards the resounding success of the 2023 ICTEL Expo held on July 25 – 26, 2023, at Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
