The National Examination Council (NECO) announced on Monday that 67.35% of candidates who sat for the Senior School Certificate Examinations obtained five credits, including Mathematics and English language. The Registrar of NECO, Professor Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed this during the release of the results and the launch of the Automated Annual Posting Calendar at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
A total of 74,950 candidates, comprising 39,213 males and 35,737 females, participated in the examination held from November 20th to December 20, 2023. Out of the 73,124 candidates who took the English language exam, 55,272 (75.59%) secured credit and above. Similarly, in Mathematics, out of 73,119 candidates, 67,814 (92.75%) achieved credit and above.
Furthermore, 62,530 candidates, representing 84.11%, obtained five credits irrespective of Mathematics and English Language. The results also revealed a decline in malpractice cases, with 8,518 reported cases, showing a 25.4% reduction compared to 2022.
The Registrar noted that two supervisors—one from Oyo and another from Lagos State—were blacklisted for poor supervision, inability to control candidates, and aiding and abetting malpractices. Additionally, a center in Borno State was blacklisted for facilitating the sharing of WhatsApp messages to candidates.
Dantani Wushishi, the NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the successful conduct of the examination and the timely release of results. He also seized the opportunity to launch a 3-posting Automated Annual Posting Calendar designed to address issues related to posting the council’s staff for out-of-station assignments.
