Nigeria Earns More Revenue from Non-Oil Sector, Generates 6 Million Jobs, Says Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation

During a media briefing organized by the Presidential Communication team at the State House Abuja, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, announced that Nigeria is now experiencing increased revenue from the non-oil sector.

He further revealed that the ministry has played a pivotal role in creating approximately 6 million direct and indirect jobs within an eight-year period.

In line with the government’s commitment to enhancing food security and reducing reliance on conventional food sources, the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (FMSTI) has successfully developed improved varieties of certain crops, serving as alternative sources for the industrial sector, as stated by Minister Mamora.

The Minister highlighted notable economic growth, citing that from 2015 to 2022, the Nominal GDP has surged from ₦94.4 Trillion to ₦199.34 Trillion.

Concurrently, the Science, Technology, and Innovation sector have witnessed positive growth, advancing from ₦3.93 Trillion in 2015 to ₦5.35 Trillion by 2022.

Moreover, the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation has achieved significant milestones in the healthcare sector. They have effectively utilized local herbs, plants, and traditional medical technologies in the production of drugs for the treatment of terminal illnesses and diseases. Notably, they have successfully developed Nutraceuticals for managing disorders such as Sickle Cell Anaemia.
