The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have decided to suspend their planned strike, originally set for Wednesday, after engaging in discussions with representatives of the Federal Government at the Presidential Villa.

The meeting, which concluded on Monday at around 10:50 pm, centered around the removal of fuel subsidy.

During the meeting, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, announced that the gathering would reconvene on June 19th.

As part of the agreement, a joint committee will be established involving the Federal Government, TUC, and NLC. This committee will review proposals for wage increase or awards, while also creating a framework and timeline for their implementation.

Confirming the suspension of the strike, Joe Ajaero of the Nigeria Labour Congress and his TUC counterpart expressed that the decision was made in accordance with the agreement reached with the government to address the presented issues.

Earlier in the day, the National Industrial Court issued a restraining order against the Organised Labour, preventing them from commencing any form of strike.

The court’s ruling came in response to an ex parte application and will remain in effect until the hearing and determination of the motion of notice dated June 5, 2023.
