FPRO Urges Vigilance as Police Unveil Latest Crime Trends
The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest and subsequent parading of 12 individuals allegedly involved in one chance armed robbery syndicates, alongside 33 other suspects, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The suspects were presented to the media by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, during a press briefing held in Abuja on Friday. Adejobi highlighted that the arrests were made possible through valuable tips provided by concerned citizens.
Expressing concern over the escalating rate of criminal activities across the nation, ACP Adejobi assured the public of the force’s commitment to swift action against criminal elements. He emphasized the importance of keeping citizens informed about emerging crime trends to enable proactive measures for self-protection.
One of the prominent crime trends addressed by Adejobi was the ‘one chance’ syndicate, where criminals utilize commercial vehicles to ensnare unsuspecting passengers, subsequently robbing them at knifepoint or gunpoint.
Among those apprehended was a former corporal who had been dismissed from the force in 2019. Additionally, the police paraded Ugwanyi Ugochukwu, alleged to be a supplier of prohibited and controlled drugs to various criminal networks, including one-chance robbery gangs.
Confessions from some of the suspects shed light on their modus operandi, providing insight into their criminal activities. Additionally, a victim of the one-chance syndicate recounted her harrowing experience, underscoring the need for increased vigilance among citizens.
In light of these developments, the Force Public Relations Officer stressed the importance of thorough background checks before engaging domestic workers or renting out properties. Adejobi revealed that provisions had been made in the FCT for comprehensive profiling, urging citizens to avail themselves of these services at their nearest police stations.
As the Nigeria Police Force continues its efforts to curb criminal activities, the public is encouraged to remain vigilant and collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
