IGP Kayode Egbetokun Leads First-Ever Carol Night
In a spectacular event at the International Conference Centre, the main auditorium witnessed a full house as the Nigeria Police Force hosted its inaugural 2023 Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons. Under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, the theme for the evening resonated with the season: “Unto Us a Child is Born… the Prince of Peace.”
The distinguished gathering included notable figures such as the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, serving and retired senior military personnel, as well as officers and men of the police force. The atmosphere was filled with festive cheer as guests convened for this landmark occasion.
The evening commenced with the first lesson, drawn from the Book of Genesis, chapter 3, verses 16, followed by a soul-stirring rendition of the classic carol, “O Come All Ye Faithful,” performed by the talented Police Mass Choir.
Minister Wale Edun, addressing the assembly, lauded the maiden Police Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons as a “joyful gathering” that provides officers with a platform to relax and brainstorm collectively. He commended IGP Egbetokun for the initiative and urged him to “sustain” such events in the future.
As the night unfolded, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, delivered the fourth lesson, while IGP Kayode Egbetokun took the stage to read the fifth lesson from Matthew 1:18-24. The Police Mass Choir, along with musical ensembles such as the Lord Trumpeters, Rhema Voices, Emman Sax Police Band, and Orchestra, captivated the audience with beautiful renditions throughout the carol.
Guest artist Dunsin Oyekan, leading his band of worshippers, added a spiritual dimension to the evening with an inspiring performance. Following the carol, IGP Egbetokun assured Nigerians of comprehensive security deployments across the country to ensure a secure yuletide season, minimizing the risk of any security breaches.
