The Nigerian Army has officially commenced the 2025 Captain to Major Written Promotion Examination (CMWPE), urging all participants to uphold the highest standards of discipline and integrity.
The examination began today at the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST) in Benin City, marking a critical milestone for officers seeking advancement in their careers.
In a statement released by Lt. Colonel Sani Uba, Spokesperson for the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) of the Nigerian Army, the event underscores the military’s commitment to merit-based promotions. “This examination is not just a routine assessment but a measure of your capacity and readiness to assume higher responsibilities within the Nigerian Army,” said Major General Kevin Aligbe, Commander of TRADOC NA and President of the examination.
Major General Aligbe, speaking at the opening ceremony, congratulated the candidates on reaching this significant stage in their professional journeys.
He stressed the exam’s pivotal role in career progression, noting that success is a key prerequisite for promotion to the rank of Major. “The need to pass this examination cannot be overemphasized.
Your performance here is a critical determinant of your career progression,” he warned, while reiterating the Army’s zero-tolerance policy on examination misconduct.
To deter any irregularities, Aligbe issued a stern warning: “Any form of malpractice would attract severe sanctions capable of jeopardizing your future in the Army.”
He assured candidates that the process would be conducted with fairness, transparency, and integrity, thanks to a dedicated team of examiners who have worked meticulously to ensure an equitable assessment.
The Commandant of NASST, Major General Adebayo Adegbite, echoed these sentiments in his welcome address. He highlighted the examination as a vital catalyst for career advancement and professional development, pointing to the extensive preparations undertaken by candidates. “We have conducted a month-long preparatory cadre and mock examination to assess your readiness.
We expect a good performance from all candidates, given the level of preparation,” Adegbite said. He urged participants to adhere strictly to examination guidelines and avoid any malpractice.
In light of ongoing security challenges in Benin City, Adegbite also addressed safety concerns. “Due to prevailing security threats, I advise all participants to be vigilant, minimize unnecessary movements, move in pairs when required, and maintain open communication channels,” he cautioned, emphasizing the need for heightened awareness during the event.
The opening ceremony drew a host of senior military officials, including Major General Ayoola Aboaba, Deputy Chief of Training (Army); Major General Peter Okoye, Chief of Training at TRADOC NA; and Brigadier General Danjuma Dantani, Acting Director of Examinations at TRADOC NA. Observers from the Army Headquarters Department of Training, Department of Army Standards and Evaluation, and the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre were also in attendance, underscoring the event’s importance at the institutional level.
The proceedings concluded with a group photograph of dignitaries, directing staff, and candidates, symbolizing unity and commitment to excellence within the Nigerian Army.
This examination represents a key step in the Army’s efforts to build a more capable and professional force, as officers compete for advancement amid Nigeria’s evolving security landscape.
The Nigerian Army continues to prioritize merit and ethical conduct as foundational pillars for leadership development.
