Nigerian Army Trooping And Parade 2023

The Nigerian Army has held a momentous trooping and presentation of colours parade, marking the retirement of 53 units’ regimental colours while presenting 28 new ones for newly established units.

The ceremony was blessed by the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday at the Eagles Square.

President Buhari in his remarks stated the progress in the fight against terrorism and oil theft. He reiterated the efforts emplaced to activate the Nigerian army aviation to enhance operation efficiency of the army.

The trooping and presentation of colours parade is a customary practice carried out when retiring the old colours of a regiment or unit, and presenting them with a new one.

The ceremony involves marching or trooping the old colours past the assembled soldiers of the regiment or unit, retiring the colours, presenting the new colours to the regiment or unit, and consecrating the new colours.

It will be recalled, that the last time such a parade was conducted in Nigeria was in 2007, when 32 units and regiments were issued new colours.

The parade is importance as it symbolizes the transfer of authority and responsibility from the old colours to the new ones, representing the continuity of the unit’s traditions, achievements, and reputation.
