Nigerian Economy Hit Hard by Tough Policies, Conditions Deteriorating – Ex-IYC President Omare

ABUJA, Nigeria – Eric Omare, a former President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), has voiced significant concern over the current state of the Nigerian economy, describing conditions as “difficult and worsening” for citizens.

Speaking on the impact of recent government policies, Omare stated that it is challenging to definitively say whether Nigerians are better off economically under the current administration. He attributed the prevailing hardship directly to “tough economic policies” that have had a “significant impact on the lives of Nigerians.”

Specifically highlighting the removal of the fuel subsidy, Omare acknowledged its potential necessity under the circumstances but emphasized its negative effect on the cost of living and general well-being. “Though the removal of fuel subsidy is necessary in the circumstances, it has made living conditions tough for Nigerians,” he noted. This assessment led him to conclude that Nigerians are passing through difficult and worsening economic conditions.

Looking ahead, the former IYC leader expressed hope for improvement as promised by the government. However, he stressed the urgent need for proactive measures.

Omare called on the government to “introduce deliberate policies to cushion the effects of the economic policies on the people.” He emphasized that a key focus of these interventions should be to enable Nigerians to afford basic necessities, directly addressing the growing issue of economic hardship in Nigeria.

Omare’s comments underscore the widespread concerns about the immediate impacts of economic reforms on the populace, advocating for targeted relief measures to ease the burden on households.
