Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), has announced that security forces have eliminated more than 13,543 terrorists and other criminal suspects nationwide since May 2023. Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Policy and Development Summit in Abuja, Ribadu underscored the significant advancements made by the military and intelligence agencies in their counter-terrorism efforts over the past two years.
During his address at the event, held at the State House Banquet Hall, the NSA revealed that at least 124,408 members of Boko Haram and its affiliate, the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), along with their family members, have surrendered to authorities. These individuals are now undergoing the government’s de-radicalization and reintegration programs aimed at their rehabilitation and societal reintegration.
Ribadu also reported that operations have led to the recovery and destruction of 252,596 rounds of various types of ammunition. He reiterated that Nigerian troops have successfully neutralized 13,543 terrorists through coordinated missions across the country. The NSA attributed these improvements in national security to enhanced collaboration between agencies, increased investments in intelligence gathering, and strong political resolve.
The APC summit was organized to evaluate the party’s overall performance and policy initiatives.
