NiMet Forecasts Nationwide Thunderstorms and Rain for Three Days

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country from Saturday to Monday.

In a weather outlook issued on Friday in Abuja, NiMet predicted early morning thunderstorms on Saturday in northern states including Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Adamawa. Later that day, it expects thunderstorms and rain to spread to Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, Borno, Kaduna, Sokoto, Gombe, and Bauchi.

For the North-Central region, NiMet projected morning thunderstorms in Benue, Plateau, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Nasarawa, with storms and rain extending to Kwara and Kogi later in the day.

In the South, NiMet expects cloudy skies in the morning with rain likely in parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa. Thunderstorms with rain are also expected later in the day in Imo, Abia, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, and surrounding areas.

On Sunday, NiMet forecasts morning thunderstorms for Kaduna, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba. It anticipates storms and rain in Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Gombe, and Bauchi by evening. Cloud cover and sunny intervals are expected in the North-Central zone, with thunderstorms likely in the FCT, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau states later.

For southern states, NiMet expects morning thunderstorms in Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River, with storms and rain likely across most of the southern region as the day progresses.

On Monday, the agency expects morning thunderstorms in Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba. It predicts rainfall and storms later in Taraba, Adamawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, Gombe, Kaduna, and Bauchi.

In the North-Central area, NiMet forecasts sun-cloud intervals followed by afternoon or evening thunderstorms in FCT, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Plateau, and Niger.

Morning rains are also expected in southern states such as Ogun, Edo, Ondo, Delta, and Bayelsa, with widespread thunderstorms anticipated later in the day across the region.

NiMet advised the public to take precautions against strong winds that may accompany the storms. It recommended securing loose items, avoiding driving during heavy rain, and disconnecting electrical appliances during storms. The agency also urged residents to stay updated through its official website and advised airline operators to request airport-specific forecasts for better flight planning.
