Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, has criticized Governor Usman Ododo’s interference in the ongoing saga involving former Governor Yahaya Bello and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stating that it constitutes a breach of the law. Oshiomhole made these remarks during a national integration conference organized by the Kukah Centre, themed ‘Revisiting the national question: Nigeria’s elusive search for national integration’.
Addressing attendees, Oshiomhole highlighted Bello’s refusal to appear in court as another violation of the law. He urged citizens to speak out against such breaches, emphasizing the importance of upholding the law regardless of the individuals involved.
During his speech, Oshiomhole expressed concern over the reluctance to hold accountable those in positions of power who flout the law. He questioned the lack of courage in naming and addressing the actions of both former and current governors who have allegedly violated legal protocols.
Oshiomhole’s remarks underscored the need for accountability and transparency, urging society to overcome the fear of repercussions and speak out against injustice. He criticized the notion of shielding influential figures from accountability while penalizing ordinary citizens for lesser offenses.
The ongoing EFCC investigation accuses former Governor Yahaya Bello of money laundering and corruption amounting to N80.2 billion. The situation remains a subject of legal and public scrutiny, reflecting broader concerns about accountability and governance in Nigeria.
