The Federal Government on Thursday revealed a total of 4,366 projects implemented in the realm of the digital economy, all of which were overseen by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
Minister Isa Pantami, responsible for Communications and Digital Economy, unveiled these projects, highlighting that an impressive 95 percent of them have been completed and are already in use.
The unveiling ceremony, conducted virtually by the Minister, included the commissioning of digital economy projects in several states across Nigeria, namely Yobe, Oyo, Niger, Lagos, Bauchi, Enugu, and Abuja.
In addition to these projects, Minister Pantami also presented a comprehensive document called the “Compendium of Achievements,” which succinctly summarized the extraordinary milestones accomplished under his leadership since assuming the position of Minister on August 21, 2019.
The Compendium of Achievements outlined notable successes, including the expansion of the number of valid policies from one to twenty-three, a significant increase in 4G coverage from 23 percent to 80.86 percent, and the successful launch of 5G technology in Nigeria.
Furthermore, the document highlighted the remarkable growth in NIN (National Identification Number) enrollments, which surged from less than 39 million to over 100 million.
It also showcased the impressive rise in average quarterly revenue from N51.3 million to N408.7 billion, as assessed by independent bodies.
Additionally, the Compendium recognized the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector’s three highest contributions to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
It also celebrated the Ministry’s exceptional performance during independent Ministerial mandates’ achievement review, conducted by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and KPMG.
During the ceremony, Minister Pantami further commissioned 10 logistics trucks for the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST). Notably, these trucks were acquired using internally generated revenue generated by the service, demonstrating their self-sufficiency and commitment to enhancing their operational capabilities.
