PDP Urges Tinubu to Prioritise Nigerians’ Welfare, Address Hardship in Eid Message
Abuja, Nigeria – June 6, 2025 – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today used the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to call on President Bola Tinubu to dedicate the remaining two years of his administration to significantly improving the welfare of Nigerians.
In its Eid-el-Kabir message, released on June 6, 2025, the main opposition party underscored the urgent need for the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government to address the nation’s pressing economic hardship and escalating insecurity.
Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, articulated the party’s concerns, urging the APC government to adopt greater accountability and discipline in governance. He specifically called for an end to what the PDP described as “wasteful spending, exploitation, and manipulative governance practices.”
While congratulating Nigerians on the Eid celebration itself and encouraging them to renew their faith despite current difficulties, the PDP expressed deep concern over a “prevailing mood of despair” across the nation. The party highlighted increasing insecurity, tragically describing Nigeria as “a large killing field” where citizens face constant threats from terrorists, bandits, and other armed groups.
In addition to security issues, the PDP pointed to the severe economic hardships affecting many Nigerians. The party attributed these challenges to what it termed the “reckless mismanagement of national resources” by the APC administration, citing the high costs of fuel, electricity tariffs, and charges on essential services.
The PDP urged the APC government to treat the Eid-el-Kabir festival as a moment for national renewal and healing, demanding reforms aimed at reviving the productive sector and reducing corruption. Specifically, the party called for a review of policies to lower fuel prices and electricity costs, which have a broad negative impact on everyday life.
Another key demand from the PDP concerned the country’s rising national debt. The party criticized the APC government’s borrowing practices, alleging they often lack transparency or connection to meaningful development projects. The PDP also called for the immediate recovery of over N30 trillion it claimed was “stolen by APC leaders” through fraudulent deals, especially within the oil sector.
According to the PDP, any recovered funds should be redirected to critical areas such as infrastructure development, revitalizing key economic sectors, and strengthening security agencies to effectively combat rising violence across the country.
In closing, the PDP urged President Tinubu to use the remainder of his term to restore public trust by demonstrating true sensitivity to the welfare and plight of Nigerians. The party linked this critical call to the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir, emphasizing selflessness and submission to the divine will as essential qualities for leadership in challenging times.
Finally, the PDP encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope despite the daunting difficulties, urging them to remain patriotic, supportive of one another, and prayerful for divine intervention to guide the nation forward.
