PDP Vows to Resist APC ‘Totalitarian’ Agenda, Blasts Tinubu’s Policies

PDP NEC Vows to Resist APC Agenda, Demands Tinubu Reverse ‘Anti-People’ Policies

ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on [Date], issued a strong warning against what it described as a growing ‘totalitarian’ agenda by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government. The party also launched a scathing attack on the economic and social policies implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which it claimed were inflicting untold hardship on Nigerians.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja [or in a statement released to the press], the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, stated that the party would not stand by while democratic principles were allegedly eroded and the rights of citizens suppressed under the current administration.

“We are witnessing a systematic shrinking of democratic space, a clampdown on dissenting voices, and a disregard for the rule of law under the guise of governance,” Ologunagba alleged. “This administration is exhibiting tendencies that are dangerously tilting towards totalitarianism, attempting to muscle the opposition, control the media, and stifle legitimate criticism.”

The PDP spokesperson vowed that the party would mobilize Nigerians and utilize every legitimate means – including constitutional and political actions – to resist what he termed the “APC’s anti-democratic path.”

Furthermore, the PDP spokesperson severely criticised President Tinubu’s economic policies, citing the removal of the fuel subsidy and the handling of the foreign exchange market as key drivers of the current economic hardship faced by citizens.

“President Tinubu’s policies have brought unprecedented hardship, skyrocketing inflation, and a devastating erosion of the purchasing power of the average Nigerian,” Ologunagba asserted. “They promised prosperity and renewed hope, but what we see is mass poverty, hunger, and despair across the nation.”

He argued that the economic reforms were implemented without adequate palliatives or a clear roadmap to cushion their effects on the vulnerable population, leading to increased suffering.

The PDP called on President Tinubu and the APC government to urgently review its policies, listen to the cries of Nigerians, and steer the country away from what it described as economic decline and democratic regression.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is yet to officially respond to the specific allegations made by the PDP regarding a ‘totalitarian agenda’ or the criticism of its policies as of the time of filing this report.

The declaration by the PDP signals a potentially intensified political confrontation between the two major parties as the opposition vows to increase its efforts in holding the government accountable.
