The Nasarawa State Police Command has reported the arrest of three individuals posing as officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the Nasarawa Local Government Area. The arrest comes after a series of disturbing incidents, including a recent attack near the Federal Polytechnic in Nasarawa LGA, where residents were robbed, and a student was abducted.
According to DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, the suspects launched an assault in the area, robbing people of their belongings and kidnapping a National Diploma student from the Federal Polytechnic. However, following extensive efforts by police officers, the victim was released, and the perpetrators were apprehended.
Nansel provided details of the incident, stating, “On 17/04/2024 at about 1545hrs, a distress call was received that four individuals posing as EFCC personnel…robbed some students of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa…and abducted one Adudu Kingsley, an ND II Student of the same Polytechnic.”
He explained that police operatives pursued the suspects, setting up roadblocks to prevent their escape. Despite their attempts to flee, the suspects abandoned their vehicle and the abducted student. Tragically, the student died during medical treatment after being rescued from the mob by the police.
Further investigation led to the arrest of three members of the gang, identified as Hyelda Aliyu Ibrahim, Henry Patrick Okwu, and Shuaibu Abubakar. They were found in possession of stolen items, including mobile phones, and fake EFCC identification cards were recovered from them.
Nansel stated, “The suspects have confessed to being the syndicate responsible for robbing and terrorizing student areas in Keffi and Nasarawa LGA. Efforts are ongoing to arrest one identified suspect who is at large.”
Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Nadada, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia. Nansel assured that the suspects would face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation. The incident underscores the importance of vigilance and swift police action in combating crime in the region.
