Police Council Confirms Kayode Egbetokun as the 22nd Substantive Inspector-General of Police

The Police Council has officially ratified the appointment of Kayode Egbetokun as the 22nd substantive Inspector-General of Police.

The announcement was made by Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, the Minister of Police Affairs, following a meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

Members of the Council have expressed strong confidence in the new IGP’s ability to lead government reforms aimed at strengthening the fight against insecurity throughout the nation.

Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, revealed that IGP Egbetokun has emphasized key reforms essential for addressing security challenges in Nigeria. These reforms include a focus on technology-driven and community-based policing, as well as enhanced budget allocation.

Prior to his confirmation as the 22nd substantive IGP, Egbetokun served as the Deputy-Inspector General of Police representing the South-West geopolitical zone of the country. Egbetokun was initially appointed as the acting Inspector General of Police by President Bola Tinubu over three months ago.

It is worth noting that the Nigeria Police Council’s last meeting was held on June 4, 2021, presided over by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
