President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Relives Service Chiefs of their duties, New Appointments Made

On Monday evening President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took decisive action by granting immediate retirement to all Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, as well as appointing their replacements with immediate effect.

The Service Chiefs who have been retired include Chief of Defence Staff, Lucky Irabor; Chief of Army Staff, Farouk Yahaya; Chief of Naval Staff, Awwal Gambo; Chief of Air Staff, Isiaka Amao, and the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali. A statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) announced that Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has been redesignated as the National Security Adviser (NSA). It should be noted that Ribadu was recently appointed as the Special Adviser to the President on Security Matters.

According to the statement, the new appointments are as follows: Maj. Gen. C.G. Musa is now the Chief of Defence Staff; Maj. T.A. Lagbaja assumes the role of Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral E.A. Ogalla is the Chief of Naval Staff; AVM H.B. Abubakar takes charge as Chief of Air Staff, and DIG Kayode Egbetokun serves as the acting Inspector-General of Police. Additionally, Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye has been appointed as the new Chief of Defense Intelligence.

Furthermore, President Tinubu has approved several other appointments, including the following: Col. Adebisi Onasanya as Brigade of Guards Commander; Lt. Col. Moshood Abiodun Yusuf as commander of the 7 Guards Battalion, Asokoro, Abuja; Lt. Col. Auwalu Baba Inuwa as commander of the 177 Guards Battalion, Keffi, Nasarawa State; Lt. Col. Mohammed J. Abdulkarim as commander of the 102 Guards Battalion, Suleja, Niger; and Lt. Col. Olumide A. Akingbesote as commander of the 176 Guards Battalion, Gwagwalada, Abuja.

Additionally, the President has made appointments of military officers in the Presidential Villa, including Maj. Isa Farouk Audu as the Commanding Officer of the State House Artillery; Capt. Kazeem Olalekan Sunmonu as the Second-in-Command of the State House Artillery; Maj. Kamaru Koyejo Hamzat as the Commanding Officer of the State House Military Intelligence; Maj. TS Adeola as the Commanding Officer of the State House Armament; and Lt. A. Aminu as the Second-in-Command of the State House Armament.

President Tinubu has also approved the appointments of two additional Special Advisers and two Senior Assistants. Hadiza Bala Usman has been appointed as the Special Adviser for Policy Coordination, while Hannatu Musa Musawa assumes the role of Special Adviser for Culture and Entertainment Economy. Furthermore, Senator Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant for National Assembly Matters (Senate), and Hon. (Barr) Olarewaju Kunle Ibrahim takes on the position of Senior Special Assistant for National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives).

Lastly, the President has appointed Adeniyi Bashir Adewale as the Acting Comptroller General of Customs. It is important to note that the appointed Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Comptroller General of Customs will act in their positions until their confirmation in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
