President Bola Tinubu has called upon the Nigerian Senate to confirm the appointment of the newly appointed service chiefs. The confirmation request was conveyed in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the plenary session on Tuesday.
The nominated service chiefs awaiting confirmation are Major General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defense Staff and Major General Taoreed Lagbaja as Chief of Army Staff. Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogala has been nominated as Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff.
However, the Senate President referred the confirmation request to the Committee of the Whole, as the Senate has yet to establish its various committees.
During the same plenary session, the Senate President announced the appointment of Chairmen and Vice Chairmen for several Senate Standing Committees. The appointments are as follows:
