The Police Service Commission has given its approval for the appointment and deployment of eight Commissioners of Police to various State Commands across the country.
In addition, the Commission commended the acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for adhering to its latest policy on gender sensitivity in his recommendations.
However, the Commission expects that in future proposals, the Inspector General will include more officers from the North East and South East geopolitical zones, as these zones have yet to meet the benchmark of 15 percent representation as decided in the Commission’s last Plenary Meeting.
The newly appointed State Commissioners of Police are as follows: Godwin Aghaulor, now CP of Borno State Command; Adelesi E. Oluwarotimi, CP of Kwara State Command; Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, CP of Oyo State Command; Augustina Ogbodo, CP of Ebonyi State Command; and Samuel Titus Musa, CP of Kebbi State Command.
The remaining appointees include Aderemi Olufemi Adeoye, CP of Anambra State Command; Stephen Olarewaju, CP of Imo State Command; and Alamatu Abiodun Mustapha, CP of Ogun State Command.
Dr. Solomon Arase, CFR, a retired Inspector General of Police and the Chairman of the Commission, stated that the postings, as recommended by the acting Inspector General of Police, were fair and commendable, with the inclusion of women. He advised the acting IGP to consider the underprivileged geopolitical zones when submitting future proposals for the Commission’s ratification.
