The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced that the Departmental Selection Board (DSB) interviews for Police Inspectors seeking promotion to the rank of Unconfirmed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP II) will begin on Monday, May 19, 2025.
According to a statement by PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani, the interviews will take place simultaneously across the 17 Police Zonal Command Headquarters nationwide. The exercise is a key step for senior Inspectors aspiring to advance within the Nigeria Police Force.
PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hashimu Argungu, confirmed that Commission staff would be deployed to the zonal headquarters to monitor the process in collaboration with NPF officers.
In a strong warning ahead of the exercise, Argungu cautioned against financial inducement, stating that any candidate found offering bribes or contributing money to influence the process would face serious consequences.
“The Commission will deal ruthlessly with any police officer who attempts to induce or compromise officials supervising the promotion interviews,” he said. “Officers involved will not only be sanctioned but publicly disgraced.”
Argungu acknowledged past cases where candidates allegedly made financial contributions to secure promotion but assured that such corrupt practices would no longer be tolerated. He emphasized the Commission’s commitment to a transparent, merit-based promotion process.
“From now on, police promotions will be strictly based on merit and the availability of vacancies,” he said.
He urged all candidates to prepare adequately and approach the interviews with confidence, reassuring them that only performance and qualifications will determine the outcome.
Argungu reaffirmed the Commission’s goal of building a professional and effective police force capable of ensuring national security and maintaining law and order.
