The House of Representatives on Tuesday approved the N1.78 trillion Federal Capital Territory (FCT) 2025 budget for second reading.

House Leader Hon. Julius Ihonvbere sponsored the Appropriation Bill, and Minority Leader Hon. Kingsley Chinda seconded the motion during plenary.

The proposed budget allocates N150.35 billion for personnel costs and N343.77 billion for overhead. Lawmakers assigned the remaining N1.28 trillion to capital projects.

The House referred the bill to the committees on Federal Capital Territory and FCT Area Councils/Ancillary Matters for further scrutiny.

President Bola Tinubu submitted the budget proposal earlier, as announced by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen on May 6, 2025.

Tinubu stated that the submission complies with Section 299 of the Constitution, which grants the National Assembly legislative power over the FCT.

The president emphasized that the budget will prioritize healthcare, job creation, social welfare, agriculture, and infrastructure.

He noted that 85% of the capital budget will complete ongoing projects, while 15% will support new initiatives.
