Ribadu Assumes Office, Vows to Restore Stability in Nigeria

On Monday, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu officially commenced his role as the National Security Adviser (NSA) with a strong commitment to combat insecurity and restore stability in Nigeria.

Appointed by President Bola Tinubu on June 19, Ribadu took over the position from retired Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno.

“This is a collective responsibility for all Nigerians, and we are determined to continue the ongoing efforts. We will work towards stabilizing our country, ensuring its security, and fostering peace,” expressed the new NSA.

Ribadu emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s administration firmly believes that it is time for Nigeria to enjoy peace, restore order, and uphold the rule of law, just like any other country in the world.

“Securing the nation is an ongoing process. We will build upon the existing initiatives and rely on your support as we discharge our responsibilities. Mr. President is deeply committed to securing every part of our country, and we will collaborate with all stakeholders to realize this vision. Safeguarding our nation is the responsibility of all Nigerians and our friends,” Ribadu stated.

The new NSA sought the complete cooperation of all military personnel and the Nigerian populace alike. He stressed the need for unity among Nigerians to achieve the administration’s goals of a stable, peaceful, and prosperous nation.

Former NSA Monguno commended Ribadu’s capabilities, affirming that he possesses the required qualifications, education, and deep understanding of Nigeria’s complex security challenges due to his prior experiences in related roles.

Monguno confirmed that he had provided a comprehensive handover note to Ribadu and briefed him extensively. Expressing gratitude for his long service, Monguno wished Ribadu a successful tenure and a healthy future upon his eventual departure.

Acknowledging the evolving nature of the 21st-century security environment, Monguno highlighted the presence of terrorists and insurrectionists, emphasizing the necessity for a multifaceted approach in dealing with these challenges. He urged the staff to offer their support and cooperation to Ribadu to achieve the desired national security objectives.
