Rivers: Fubara requested a state of emergency – APC.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has supported President Bola Tinubu’s proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers state, claiming that suspended governor Siminalayi Fubara laid the groundwork for the emergency rule.

Noting that Fubara had requested a state of emergency through his actions and inactions, APC spokesman Felix Morka highlighted Fubara’s numerous impeachable offenses in a statement.

He stated that “Governor Siminalayi Fubara is the author of the extreme events that have occurred in Rivers State.” Fubara wrecked the Rivers State House of Assembly, destroying the state’s democratic underpinning. Fubara brought the state’s government to an end when he ‘ruled’ without a legislature. When Fubara spent state funds without a proper parliamentary allocation, he forfeited all constitutional safeguards for the position of Governor.

“A governor cannot exist without the legislature and the judiciary. All three branches of government, while having independent constitutional powers, must coexist in order to create a government that adheres to the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution.

“The Supreme Court confirmed that there was no government in the state, and there hadn’t been one since Fubara demolished the state legislature. Fubara’s reckless conduct paved the way for this catastrophe.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proclamation of a state of emergency was a necessary, constitutionally mandated step to protect lives and property while also extending government to the good people of Rivers state. At this point, people’s safety and well-being must take precedence over all political considerations.

“Again, President Tinubu has demonstrated courage and leadership in forestalling a looming breakdown of law and order in the state”.
