In a heartfelt initiative to spread love and support among the widows of late Police officers, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has reached out to over 200 widows in the state. The gesture involved the donation of food items, rice, and undisclosed amounts of money to each widow, emphasizing the commitment to honoring the sacrifices made by their late husbands.
Mrs. Disu Mutiat Olufunmilola, the Chairperson of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), expressed the State Police Command’s dedication to continually honoring the wives of late Police Officers. She highlighted the crucial roles these officers played in the fight for a better Rivers State during their lifetimes and underscored the importance of extending Valentine’s Day celebrations beyond spouses to include loved ones.
During the event organized to honor and celebrate the wives of late Police Officers, Commissioner of Police CP Olatunji R. Disu shared opening remarks, emphasizing the significance of the occasion. He acknowledged the widows as representatives of the police force, responsible for caring for the children left behind by their late husbands.
“We remember you and want to show you love. We pray the Almighty God to remember them because they all died fighting for our nation. You are the ones taking care of the children, and you have proved our detractors wrong who said Police children cannot thrive. Thank you all,” stated CP Olatunji Disu.
He further revealed that the event was an initiative of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, who directed that the wives of late Police Officers be included in celebrations. CP Olatunji Disu assured the widows of continuous support and protection, instructing Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to provide the needed assistance wherever necessary.
Josephine Alukabu, the leader of the Late Police Officers Wives (LAPOWA), expressed deep gratitude for the unprecedented celebration, noting its positive impact. She thanked the State Commissioner of Police and his team, offering prayers for their continued success and achievements.
In a heartwarming display of compassion, the Rivers State Command hosted over two hundred widows of late Police Officers, providing them with cash and other items as part of the Valentine’s Day celebration. The event served as a touching tribute to the departed ones and a demonstration of the police force’s commitment to supporting their families.
