Grief has swept through nursing communities in both the UK and Nigeria following the sudden death of Nnena Miriam, a Nigerian nurse based in Leeds.
Her body was discovered by UK police in her apartment after she was declared missing. According to Fellow Nurses Africa, concerns arose when Miriam failed to show up for work and stopped responding to calls. A close friend, worried by her silence, filed a missing person report, which led to the heartbreaking discovery.
Fellow Nurses Africa confirmed her death in a statement, describing her as a dedicated and compassionate nurse. Miriam had just returned from Nigeria after her introduction ceremony, a traditional pre-wedding event. She was set to celebrate her formal marriage on Tuesday, April 29.
“Her sudden death has left colleagues and loved ones overwhelmed with unspeakable grief and unanswered questions,” the group said.
The cause of her death remains under investigation as friends, family, and the global African nursing community mourn her loss.
