The Defence Media Operations (DMO) has reported that soldiers engaged in counter-insurgency operations and internal security efforts have successfully eliminated 63 terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminals who have been causing unrest in the country.
Major General Musa Danmadami, the Director of the Defence Media Operations, revealed that within the last two weeks, the soldiers also apprehended 252 individuals involved in terrorist logistics supply, banditry, oil theft, IPOB activities, and other criminal acts across various parts of the country.
Speaking at the bi-weekly media briefing on the operational progress achieved in the country’s six geopolitical zones, Danmadami highlighted significant accomplishments.
These include the destruction of numerous criminal hideouts, 47 illegal refining sites, 250 storage tanks, 220 ovens, 32 dugout pits, and 31 wooden boats. Additionally, the soldiers successfully rescued 66 kidnapped victims and apprehended 876 Boko Haram terrorists, including 89 males, 249 females, and 538 children.
Providing an update on military operations conducted between May 18 and June 1, Danmadami emphasized the relentless efforts of the Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI in combating Boko Haram terrorists and other criminal elements in the North East region.
He noted that troops carried out offensive operations targeting terrorist hideouts, camps, villages, forests, and mountains in various local government areas of Borno and Yobe States.
As a result, 25 Boko Haram terrorists/Islamic State of West Africa Province members were neutralized, and a significant amount of weapons, ammunition, and other materials were recovered.
These included various rifles, grenades, explosives, vehicles, motorcycles, communication devices, and stolen livestock. The DMO expressed its commitment to sustaining the aggressive posture against the insurgents and ensuring the restoration of peace and security in affected areas.
