The Supreme Court has rejected the application filed by Emeka Ihedioha, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in his attempt to oust Hope Uzodinma from his position as the governor of Imo state.

Ihedioha had sought a consequential order from the court, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission to issue him a certificate of return as the duly elected governor of Imo state in the 2019 election.

Justice Tijjani Abubakar, delivering the lead judgment on Tuesday, declared the application devoid of merit, characterizing it as frivolous and vexatious.

He emphasized that the court lacked jurisdiction to adjudicate on the matter, citing the expiration of the 60-day timeframe stipulated for handling election-related issues.

In response to this, Abubakar imposed a fine of N40 million on the PDP’s Counsel, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, for presenting the case before the court.
