The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called for calm after a protest by youths in Abuja’s City Centre Ward. The protest followed remarks by Hon. Musa Ali, the PDP’s councillorship candidate, made during a stakeholders’ meeting at the State Party Secretariat. Hon. Ali reportedly claimed he would win the Area Council elections without support from the party’s youth wing. His comments angered many young party members, who felt sidelined and disrespected.
PDP Ward Chairman Hon. Rowland Isiramen addressed the issue while speaking to the media after the meeting. He stressed that youths play a critical role in the party’s electoral success. “The party cannot succeed without your involvement,” he told the protesting youths. He promised that the party would address their grievances seriously and promptly.
Earlier, several youth leaders voiced strong opposition to Hon. Ali’s remarks. “We are the ones mobilising and energising the base,” said Moses Eze, a youth leader in the PDP. “To be told we’re not needed is a slap in the face,” he added.
Another youth leader, Felix Mansaw, warned of the possible political fallout. “Alienating the youth vote could hurt the PDP, especially if rivals take advantage,” he cautioned. The protesting youths announced plans to hold another demonstration at the PDP Secretariat on Friday. They demand a clear reaffirmation of their importance within the party structure.
