The House of Representatives in Nigeria has affirmed its commitment to providing support to the Nigerian Army in fulfilling its vital constitutional mandate.

This mandate entails safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring the nation’s security. The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Army, Honourable Abdullahi Mamudu, made this pledge during the Committee’s inaugural visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja on November 8, 2023.

Honourable Mamudu Abdullahi expressed appreciation for the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to address emerging security challenges in the country.

Lawmakers, after being briefed on the Nigerian Army’s operational and administrative activities, acknowledged the significant challenges it faces and promised to extend the necessary support to enhance its capabilities.

During the visit, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, emphasized the Nigerian Army’s readiness to collaborate with the legislative body in fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities and ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the nation.

The COAS commended the Committee for its positive stance in supporting the Nigerian Army, emphasizing its role in facilitating the Army’s operations, training, and other activities.

General Lagbaja underscored that the Nigerian Army is content with the feedback from the committee, highlighting its role in refining ongoing Army operations.

Furthermore, he recognized the multitude of security challenges currently facing the nation and assured that the Nigerian Army remains determined to expand its efforts to establish peace and stability across the country, boldly confronting emerging security challenges in various geopolitical zones.
